About the program
Seed to Shelf is a project-based learning experience at Moonwater Farm in Compton for youth ages 14 – 26. It’s a 24-week skill-building program to increase participant capacity and interest in our food system.
Using items grown and tended at Moonwater Farm, participants create a product or service they can sell. Using a cooperative economic model, the course focuses on product development, relevant industry certifications, culinary skills, land tending, and business.

COURSE pillars

The program employs a nontraditional educational model that challenges consumerism and celebrates cultural diversity through a culture of care, collective action, and storytelling.

Land Stewardship
Land is not just where we grow—it's how we heal, reconnect, and remember. At
Seed to Shelf™, stewardship means tending soil, spirit, and story with care, respect, and responsibility

Economic Democracy
We teach cooperative economics and self-determined business models that center community over competition. Fellows learn to build products and enterprises that reflect their values—not just the market.

Creative Practice
Everyone enters with an innate creative power. Whether expressed through food, fiber, design, or storytelling, creativity is reclaimed here as a tool for survival, joy, and liberation.

Reciprocity
Giving and receiving are inseparable in land-based life. Fellows practice reciprocity through shared meals, mutual care, and honoring the relationships that make our work possible.
